The Ministry of Communications is leading the development of a new Model Road Safety Act for Pakistan. If adopted by Federal, Province and Territory Governments, it will modernise the road safety laws of Pakistan and harmonise federal and provincial law, replacing the 55 year laws currently still in force in many areas. The key issues that the model law will address include driver licensing, vehicle registration, commercial road transport regulation, law enforcement, road administration and post-crash response.
As well as reducing compliance cost and improving transparency, the implementation of the reforms will make roads safer, reducing road crash serious injuries and deaths.
The draft law has been circulated to National, Provincial and Territory governments for their consideration and comment. A revised draft will then be prepared in early 2020."
