Say NO to violation on road
Consultation with Provincial Government agencies in relation to the draft model Road Safety Act is continuing. In early December 2019 team members met with senior officials of Punjab Province. The photographs show consultation meetings with Asad Rehman Gilani (Secretary Transport Department/Chairman Punjab Provincial Transport Authority) and members of his team, and with Wajiullah Kundi (Secretary, Excise and Taxation) and members of his team.
Wide-ranging discussions with Provincial Government officials covered many issues of national and local importance.
In AJK team members met with Mr. Chaudhry Bashir, Secretary Transport Authority (first photograph) and Mr. Fayyaz Ali Abbasi, Secretary, Transport Department/Senior Member Board of Revenue (second photograph). Issues discussed included the particular road conditions in AJK and the difficulties of enforcement created by the topography of the Province.
The Ministry of Communications is leading the development of a new Model Road Safety Act for Pakistan. If adopted by Federal, Province and Territory Governments, it will modernise the road safety laws of Pakistan and harmonise federal and provincial law, replacing the 55 year laws currently still in force in many areas. The key issues that the model law will address include driver licensing, vehicle registration, commercial road transport regulation, law enforcement, road administration and post-crash response.
